It's always a big deal whenever a new Pro-Cycling Team is thrown together, first we got news that Lance and "Team Shack" were hoping to ride in the 2010 Tour de France, then team Sky, a British team, who will be riding Pinarello Bikes which is a good choice by the way because I just bought one and recommended this Manufacturer to them. Above you can have a glimpse of what their Kit will look like which is modelled by Bradley Wiggins of Manchester, England.
The French are very picky when it comes down to which teams will be "Invited" to ride the Tour de France mainly because the French are french and in some cases their selections don't make much sense as to why some Teams are invited, some not. Oh well.
I hope Team Sky and Radio Shack are invited because they will be two Teams well worth watching!!
The Tour de France has always been one of the toughest Races in the world, if I was in charge it would be the toughest, I would make a lot of changes....
For a start, the race only covers 1800 - 2500 miles, pitiful if you ask me! I would at least double that to make it more of a challenge, after all, there are 24 hours in a Day so what's wrong with riding at night? Without Lights of course!!
Then I would make all Time Trials uphill on the steepest Climbs of the Pyranees and would hand out Horse Whips to Spectators, these would serve a dual purpose, firstly to generate more revenue for the Tour Organizers because they would have Sponsors' Logo's. secondly, the Fans would be able to encourage Riders much more effectively.
It's OK to shout "Go go go" but are the Riders really listening? A good Lashing across a Riders back would be way more effective in encouraging them to try even harder up that 30% grade, especially when they look as though they're on the verge of passing out.
After all, that's how they build the Pyramids, right??
Let's Face it, in 1903 when the Tour first started, they never rode fancy shmancy Crabon Fiber Bikes!! No way!! Real Men rode Steel! Mainly because Crabon Fiber wasn't even invented in those Days, but that's beside the point.
Sky would still be allowed to ride their Pinarello's however, they can keep their $20,000 Rigs, but the rest of the Teams would be given a $250 budget per Bike with a minimum 25 Lb weight limit, I think that's fair! I could make it 35 Lb after all...think of all the money they'd save!!
Oh, and by the way, no more fancy Hotels for the Riders - Team Sky would still be allowed to stay at the best Hotels money can buy, for free - the other Teams would have to carry their own Tents, after all, in 1903 they used to stay at Friend's Houses and sleep on the Floor!!
By the way, I don't want you to think I'm in any way biased towards Team Sky, I'm not.
There are more new rules to follow so in the meanwhile, feel free to contribute your own and I will add the best ones in the comments section, there will be a Prize for the best one so put your thinking Caps on!!
